Cello masterclass

In a review of his last concert appearance, the London press recently described the cellist Alexander Baillie as “Britain’s best kept secret”. Of course, he is recognised by international experts as one of the most interesting and versatile cellists of his generation.

Born in 1956, he began playing the cello at the age of twelve, directly inspired by the legendary Jacqueline du Pré.

Baillie is a regular guest with renowned orchestras worldwide. He has worked with Sir Simon Rattle and Sir John Elliot Gardiner and appears regularly as solo cellist in concerts, recitals and international festivals. He has given numerous world premieres; works by Penderecki (2nd Cello Concerto), Hans Werner Henze, Takemitsu (“Orion & Plaiedes”), Colin Matthews, Lutoslawski and others.

With the ensemble “CelloSoundBremen”, which he founded and which consists of students from his cello class, he represented the Bremen University of Music, where he worked as a professor until recently.
